PARENTS FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF LESBIANS AND GAYS

Hinsdale, IL PFLAG Chapter meeting at Unitarian Church of Hinsdale every first Sunday of the month from 2-4pm

SUNDAY July 5th, 2009

The Hinsdale, IL PFLAG Chapter is committed to serving the needs of our Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender loved ones.  We are open to all persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity, and any racial or ethnic group, their parents, family members and friends, and any person who cares about the LGBT community.  Our primary mission is to support parents, family members and friends who have learned that their child is gay.  The chapter and others like it in the Chicago Suburban area are run by mothers, fathers, and their LGBT children.  You always have a home at PFLAG.

In addition, PFLAG promotes education to enlighten an ill-informed public, advocacy to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

The meeting location is at the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale 17 West Maple Hinsdale, IL 60521-3450.

At the corner of Maple and Washington, one block north of Chicago Ave.

We hold regular monthly meetings on the first Sunday of each month from 2-4 p.m.  Our next meeting is Sunday July 5th. Our speaker for this month is Eric Berndt. Mr. Berndt is the supervisor of the Heartland Alliance’s National Asylum Partnership on Sexual Minorities, a project of the National Immigrant Justice Center. The organization represents LGBT immigrants seeking asylum in the U.S. because they fear harm in their countries of origin.

We hold meetings regardless of holidays. Street parking is available in the church neighborhood.

Refreshments will be served.  Our meeting format consists of general announcements about local LGBT events and news, followed by a guest speaker addressing LGBT issues and finishing with small group sessions for people to share their stories and discuss LGBT issues.

Chicagoland chapter members, John Cepek, Char Cepek and John Larson, joined Equality Illinois (EQIL) and veterans at a press conference with Senator Burris coming out against the United States Military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

Take a few minutes to watch a clip from the press conference and see how some members of PFLAG have become public Advocates for gay, lesbian and trans-gendered rights.

Have you heard?  DeKalb County is home to a PFLAG Chapter again!  We will have our first meeting in less than one week - Tuesday April 14 at 7pm - at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb (UUFD:  158 N. Fourth Street in DeKalb IL 60115; corner of 4th street and Locust Street).  We will meet in their library and offer refreshments to our guests at every meeting - the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm.  If you cannot join us in April, please try to make the May meeting on the 12th.

Please tell your friends that this group is meeting in DeKalb County, as well as bringing them along to join us!  We'll be discussing activities and plans for our first few months, while we try to grow our chapter membership. Hope you can join us!

If you have any questions or comments before the 14th, kindly let me know!
